Squash Coach Education Programme Development Initiative for the Oceania Oceania 210Region

In conjunction with the World Squash Federation, Oceania Squash is seeking to undertake a coach education program development initiative aimed at enhancing the standard of coaching skills in the Oceania Region’s Island Nations. This would involve introducing potential Squash coaches to a formal coach education program so that they have the skills to conduct player and group coaching.

Oceania Squash is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified coaches who would like to be considered for this role.

The initial focus would concentrate firstly on assessing and training potential coaches leading to a higher level depending on the skills and educational development of each coach. The training course would also entail assessment and examination for formal recognition and certification.

Activities would consist of classroom and on-court "lectures", discussions, workshops and
demonstrations, on-court practical coaching assessment and mentoring activities (i.e. one-on-one coach-aspirant sessions).

Follow-up re-assessment of the coaches and the overall program would be undertaken after
approximately 9-12 months to ensure program objectives are being met and to advance coaches with the appropriate skills capability to the next course level.

It is proposed that the initial program would take 3 weeks (including travel within the Oceania Region), while the follow-up program would take 2 weeks. The course dates and host country will be confirmed with the successful applicant.

The coaching development initiative would be closely monitored by the WSF & OSF through their Development and Coaching Committees. These Committees include a number of highly skilled and accredited coaches.

Performance assessment would include:

  • The number of coaches achieving base level accreditation and higher level
    accreditation
  • Player performance at representative level, including the Commonwealth Games, Pacific Games and other major events
  • The increase in the number of squash players in particular junior players, and their respective skills level

The Commonwealth Games Federation has generously agreed to provide financial support for this initiative in 2013 which will be complemented by WSF and Oceania Squash.

Please forward details including a coaching CV by the closing date to –
