COLL GOES FOR GOLD
Paul Coll eased his way into the Men’s Singles Gold Medal Match with a 3-0 win over India’s Saurav Ghosal in 43 minutes (11-9, 11-4, 11-1). After a tense first game, Coll displayed his trademark athleticism and went on to take out the next two games comfortably. Coll moves into the Gold Medal Match against Joel Makin (Wales). In his Semi-Final Match, Makin defeated defending champion, James Willstrop (England) 3-0.
New Zealand’s defending champion, Joelle King, met Canadian Hollie Naughton in the Women’s Semi-Final Match. Naughton was in hot form and defeated Joelle 3-1 in an inspired performance over 35 minutes (7-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-1). King did all she could but couldn’t find an opening after the first game. Naughton will meet England’s Georgina Kennedy in the Gold Medal Match, whilst Joelle will meet another English-women, Sarah-Jane Perry, to fight it out for the Bronze Medal tomorrow.
All of Oceania will be behind these two inspiring New Zealander’s and look forward to seeing them both standing on the podium receiving their medals. Good luck Joelle and Paul.
