The Women’s Singles event kicked off today and our Oceania ladies did us proud with four moving into the Round of 16.

The day started very well for New Zealand with Joelle King and Paul Coll easily defeating their opponents, followed by Kaitlyn Watts who convincingly won her match 3-0.

For Australia, Jess Turnbull made her Commonwealth Games debut with a win and Donna Urquhart defeated her team mate, Rachael Grinham, to progress to the next round.

Amity Alarcos (PNG) faced a tough opponent from England, who was just too good on the day.

It was tough going for the men with Paul Coll (NZ) the only male to progress to the Round of 16. Temwa and Lwamba Chileshe (New Zealand) and Rhys Dowling (Aus) lost their 2nd round matches. Temwa was beaten by his higher ranked opponent from Scotland, Lwamba lost in five games to his Canadian opponent and Rhys’ opponent from Malaysia proved to be too strong taking the match 3-1.
