New Caledonia and Australia Take out Oceania Titles

The New Caledonia Ladies proved too strong for their opposition taking out all top 3 positions in the Ladies Individual Event.

Sylvaine Durand defeated local player, Heimana Charles, in a tough 3 setter to take out 3rd position : 11/8, 13/11,11/6.  

The final was an all New Caledonia affair with Chrisine Deneufbourg taking on Christelle Nagle.  Christine won the first game, but it looked like Christelle had the upper edge taking the next 2 games.  However Christine powered back to take out the 4th & 5th games and the Oceania Ladies Champion Title for the 3rd time - 11/4,8/11,4/11,11/5,11/7.

The Mens Finals were equally as exciting with Yann Lancrenon taking out the 3rd Place position from compatriot, Gael Gosse in another hard fought match - 8/11,11/7,8/11,11/7,11/5.  In the Mens Final Aussie Brad Freeme met the defending 2015 champion Nicolas Massenet.  Both had powered through their previous matches quite comfortably and there was much anticipation as to the outcome of the match.  Brad’s experience gave him the upper edge and he took out the 2017 Oceania Mens Champion in 4 strong games 8/11,11/7,8/11,11/7,11/5.

In true island style the after party and presentation ceremony was lively and had everything up and dancing and enjoying themselves.

Oceania Squash thank the Tahitian Squash Federation for hosting a very successful Championships.  It was a job well done!!!  The next Oceania Championships will be held in conjunction with the Pacific Games in Samoa in July 2019.  See you all then.
