Day MurrayMurray was the foundation President of the Oceania Squash Federation when it was established in 1992. He remained President until 1995, when he retired due to other commitments.

 

Murray has a long history in the sport of Squash and sport generally. His involvement in the administration of sport spans 4 decades.

Involvement in Sport:

  • 1969-71 President of New Zealand Squash Racquets Association (NZSRA)
  • 1971-74 New Zealand Representative to the International Squash Rackets Federation (now known as the World Squash Federation)
  • 1975-1981 President of the International Squash Rackets Federation
  • 1992-1995 Inaugural President of the Oceania Squash Federation
  • 1993-1998 Chairman of New Zealand Sports Assembly
  • 1998-2009 Board Member of New Zealand Professional Golf Association (NZPGA)

 

Murray’s dedication to squash has been commendable and he has received various awards in recognition of his services of squash and sports generally.

 

  • 1976 Made Life Member of New Zealand Squash Racquets Association
  • 1977 Made Life Member of the Squash Rackets Association (Great Britain)
  • 1980 Received O.B.E. for services to Sport & Education
  • 1981 Made Hon. Member of ISRF (now WSF)
  • 1997 Life Member of the Oceania Squash Federation
  • 2009 Inducted into the New Zealand Hall of Fame (Honoured Member)
  • 2009 Member of Friends of World Squash for Life.

 

Under a new Oceania Constitution adopted in 2011 the position of Immediate Past President has been established as an Officer position, which again provides Murray with an active role on the Federation in 2012.

 

Murray married Ann in 1957 and has two sons, Robert and Peter. A successful Chartered Accountant, Murray was a partner in the international Company, Deloittes from 1960 until his retirement in 1990.
